Allan MacMaster was born in Antigonish, grew up in Judique, and now lives in Troy with his wife Lucie and 5 children. He is a graduate of St. FX University. Prior to his election to the Nova Scotia Legislature in 2009, Allan worked for BMO Nesbitt Burns, one of North America’s leading investment firms.
He represented Inverness in the Nova Scotia Legislature for 15 years. In addition to his first win in 2009, Allan was re-elected in 2013, 2017 and 2021. From 2021 to 2024 he was Deputy Premier, Minister of Finance and Treasury Board, Labour Relations, Communities Culture Tourism & Heritage (2023-24), and Gaelic Affairs.
Working with sexual abuse survivors, Allan and a number of those survivors rose to national prominence when they successfully lead efforts to change Nova Scotia’s statute of limitations legislation to address historical abuse claims. With the strength of his financial background, he advanced changes to pension legislation to help NewPage paper mill pensioners. Allan has worked closely with local health professionals and community leaders to obtain specialized medical equipment to maintain rural healthcare services. He has been an advocate for affordable energy, better rural internet service, and worked on some of the first government owned cell phone service improvements in the country.
Allan is a candidate in the 2025 federal election because he is uniquely qualified to best represent the people of Cape Breton-Canso-Antigonish. His accomplishments in the Nova Scotia Legislature have demonstrated that he can work with representatives from all parties and the public service to bring solutions to the issues facing Nova Scotians. Allan is determined to continue this work for the betterment of Cape-Breton Canso-Antigonish and for our country.
